Dr Benjamin Chua
Vascular Surgeon
Dr Benjamin Chua is the Medical Director and Senior Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Vascular & Interventional Centre (VIC), which operates a day surgery facility and outpatient clinics across major hospitals in Singapore. Prior to establishing VIC, he was the Founding Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He has personally managed over 8,000 vascular cases, spanning complex arterial, venous, and endovascular procedures.
Education and Training
- Graduated with MBBS from the National University of Singapore (NUS).
- Awarded the Singapore NMRC Fellowship Training Award to pursue the Clinical Research Training Programme at Duke University School of Medicine, USA.
- Obtained a Master of Health Science (MHSc) in Clinical Research from Duke University and served as a Research Fellow at the Duke Clinical Research Institute, focusing on peripheral artery disease.
- Completed advanced training in General and Vascular Surgery at Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
- Admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
- Received the MOH–NHG HMDP Award for sub-specialty training in
- Advanced Endovascular Surgery at St Vincent’s and Epworth Hospitals, Melbourne.
Clinical Experience
- Medical Director and Senior Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Vascular & Interventional Centre (VIC).
- Founding Head, Department of Vascular Surgery at Singapore General Hospital — the first dedicated vascular department in Singapore.
- Former Senior Consultant Surgeon and Director of Endovascular Surgery, SGH.
- Performed over 8,000 vascular procedures covering complex arterial, venous, and endovascular surgeries.
- Experienced in the management of complex arterial and venous conditions using both surgical and minimally invasive techniques.
Academic and Professional Contributions
- Serves as regional mentor to other specialists in advanced aortic stenting, peripheral vascular interventions, and venous procedures.
- Regularly invited to speak and teach at regional and international vascular conferences.
- Provides training and mentorship to surgeons across the Asia-Pacific region.

- Aortic aneurysm repair and dissection management
- Diabetic limb salvage and peripheral artery disease
- Carotid artery surgery and stroke prevention
- Dialysis access creation and salvage
- Varicose veins and venous disease treatment
- Vascular malformation management
- Minimally invasive treatment for pelvic congestion, uterine fibroids, benign prostate enlargement, and erectile dysfunction

Dr Benjamin Chua’s philosophy of care centres on his belief that each patient’s treatment plan is guided by the goal of preserving health and mobility. Guided by his principle to preserve health and limb function, he utilises both open and endovascular methods to provide clinically appropriate and evidence-based care for vascular conditions.

Recipient of competitive research grants from Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology. - Holds multiple patents and invention disclosures for vascular surgery devices.
- Served as Deputy Director for Device Development, Academic Clinical Programme in Surgery, SGH.
- Published research articles and book chapters in international vascular surgery journals.

- Graduated with MBBS from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2005
- Obtained Master of Medicine in General Surgery in 2015
- Member and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSed, FRCSed)
- Awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) grant by Singapore’s Ministry of Health in 2018
- Completed fellowship training at St Mary’s Hospital, London, specialising in complex aortic and carotid surgery

- Served at major public hospitals: Tan Tock Seng Hospital, National University Hospital,
- Singapore General Hospital, and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH)
